MCA Reflection

Contemporary arts do not have limit to express artists’ intention so I love this arts. I have been contemporary art museum in New York, but I impressed different my feeling after I had studied about art although it was little bit. I could deeply think and see that why the artist used the martial for his intention and how the artist is amazing. One of the most impressive arts is firm arts. The firm which was like continuously hidden gift box shows same image and movement continuously, but I could see minutely and precisely when the firm played again and again. Most impressive firm art was sexual firm. It was not erotic firm that was beautiful. Someone said that human body is the most beautiful art. I agree with one’s saying. Human body has beautiful lines that cannot compare to others. In the film, sometime, I could see a homosexual so I thought that artist wanted to say that everybody could not discriminate it at least in arts.

The Museum Team Project Reflection

I went to National Museum of Mexican Art with my project members who are Angie and Cristina. There was not far from our school. We could take a train that was pink line and the train passed 6 stops. National Museum of Mexican Art is one of the largest Mexican art museums in Chicago. The museum was displayed over 7000 objects and there was categorized by Pre-cauhtemoc, ephemera, textile, Prints and drawings, Photography, and sculptures. However, there was not big museum that has just 3 rooms which was main gallery (LA FIESTA) and two sub galleries (KEPPERS, MARDONIO MARGANA, and MEXICANIDAD) for the exhibition. One of the the most impressice art work was about familly. It seems like various form of familly. Angie said to me that mexican can divide to areas and they have a lot of forms of family and cultures. I was very impressed about that because even though many countries have huge territory, they have similar form of cultures beacaus of one country. Our group project was very interesting experience for me because I could know that most maxican arts are about background of their life and custom.

Art 21

Season 1  2001 [Place]
By Laurie Anderson
Laurie Anderson was born in Chicago in 1947
When I saw this performance at the first time, it was very impressive to me because this performance did not have restriction of space. She performed it everywhere, but this was good surprise and wonderful performance. She used just a movable couch, but effect of this performance was shocking.

Season 2  2003 [Time]
By Tim Hawkinson
Tim Hawkinson was born in San Francisco, California, in 1960.
It looked like weird because I could remind a boy who had surgery. However, it was interesting when it moved each part of face. It appeared specific movement, so his artwork was lifelike. He combined an artwork with machine, so it was not same image every second.

Season 3  2005 [Power]
By Ida Applebroog
Ida Applebroog was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1929
It was like a story and comic book because we could see the artwork from left to right. When we saw the artwork from left to right, the artwork had something lifelike because the artwork was changed by our view. She expressed our social problem and story through her artwork.

 Season 4  2007 [Romance]
By Laurie Simmons
Laurie Simmons was born on Long Island, New York, in 1949.
It was like a musical. She was a superintendent to make a story and performance. It was interesting it could be a part of contemporary arts. She expressed the theme to a musical.

 Season 5  2009 [Fantasy]
By Jeff Koons
Jeff Koons was born in 1955 in York
He had a collaboration to make his artwork because his artwork should be spent a lot of time. He expressed his theme to sculptures. This sculpture had a symbol and his intention. His artwork was not limited materials. He used a lot of material to express his intention.

Public Arts

I have been Chicago for two years. It was not short time to look around for public artworks, but I could not pay attention to public artworks because I will live Chicago for a long time. It means I have enough time to look pulic art. Some artworks was known by wide people, so I could also know these artworks on the internet as pictures such as Cloud Gate, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Crown Fountain, and Picassos Chicago. However, I could not get clear and specific information about Chicago public arts before I did a public art tour. Website offered me not moly amazing information about the public art, but also they had a lot of information such as Landmark Tour, Theatre, Famous restaurants, and shops. One of the most impressive public artworks is Cloud Gate which is located in the heart of downtown Chicago, Millennium Park. It is named Big Bean by Chicagoan and it is 110-ton elliptical sculpture as stainless steel plates. It is also like mirror surface, so people can see Chicago’s famous skyline and the clouds above.

Shadow Hunting

I went to the Millennium Park to take shadows. I captured this with Chicago’s awesome whether because I thought that I had to go out to take a picture as well when sun was peak for thick shadows. I could realize that shadow just composed line and shape, but it could appear various shapes and lines depending on captured directions. I like this picture, one of my pictures, because there has a lot of people who have different appearances from each person such as a beautiful, ugly, and handicapped person, but everybody was beautiful and amazing in the shadow. Shadows were dark, but this color had mysterious appeals.

Film Reflection

In this movie, “Goya’s Ghosts, 2006” directed by Milos Forman is focused on Ines who inspired Goya unlike the way we could assume the main character from the title. Main characters are Goya, Ines, Tomas and Lorenzo. Goya the royal artist’s model Ines gets false charge from the spiritual court and imprisoned. Tomas, a father of Ines who is a rich merchant tries he’s best for save her daughter, Ines. Thomas figured out that Ines was forced a confession and he interrogates Lorenzo for the truth. Twenty years later, Spain has a hard time since France revolution occurs. Goya starts to draw with his eyes, the only sense since he loses his hearing before the Napoleon’s assault against Spain. Goya was the only one for her after she got out from the jail since she lost her everything. When they met, Ines told Goya that she has gave birth; a daughter who was a Lorenzo’s, However, Lorenzo just deported his daughter and all the prostitutes of Madrid because of his reputation. For Ines, Goya looked after Ines’ daughter, but they could not make it. After the Napoleon’s period, Lorenzo has been killed by the spiritual court’s decision. In conclusion, this story ends with tragedy. This movie is like sad love story between Goya and Ines, but we can know about Goya’s feeling, life, and emotion through this story.

AIC Trip Reflection

The Art Institute of Chicago Museum has a bunch of arts. I could also see genuine articles, but I could not distinguish an imitation from an original. Therefore, I asked myself what genuine article is and imitation artwork is not art. The museum was divided by artists and time orders so I could compare the color, technique, shape, material, and expression method of artist between arts. When I took my first step in the museum, I really was grad too see Van Gogh’s artworks because these were very close to us through our text book. The museum was bigger than I thought so I could not look around the entire museum. However, I was very impressed with some of artworks. One of the most impressive artworks was “Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler”. It was located in a room of modern wing, and it was drawn by Pablo Picasso, 1907. The portrait of Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler was definitely cubist work so I was really hard to understand about the location of face or body. Despite the portrait’s highly abstract character, however, Picasso added physical attributes to identify his very special subject such as a lock of hair and the knot of a tie. Moreover, when I read the artwork of instruction, I could know that the dealer sat as many as 300 times for completing this portrait. What a wonder!

The art institute of Chicago web has a lot of information for me. People cannot know every art work. Therefore, website offer the background information of art works so people can understand easier for artworks. Main tap on the web is categorized according to top questions such as collections, exhibitions, calendar, and education. The art institute of Chicago museum has exhibit schedules so people can variously experience art works as each month. As previously stated, the best part of the web is that people can know an artwork’s background through this web. They also offer related times, the information of artists, artworks of countries, and collections. When people check this web, their trip is going to be more fun.

Blog: Themes

The theme of my artwork is king’s love as Taj Mahal. The meaning of Taj Mahal is “the crown of Mahal” and it was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as Mughal architecture for his favorite third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is located in Agra, India. Mughal architecture has a special style that combines styles from Persian, Turkish, and Indian architectural styles. The spatial layout of Taj Mahal is natural and harmonious with lines and curves. Material was used by white marbles. The project began in 1632 and it took 22 years to build the Taj Mahal. There also had a lot of collections of the empire’s artifacts, arts, and crafts like a museum. It might see everyone at least once through a TV show or picture. The Taj Mahal became famous show place in India because people could feel the king’s love when they see the architecture. Mumtaz Mahal received not only much love from the king when she was alive, but also she could live with the king’s love in the gorgeous tomb. When Taj Mahal was completed, the king cut architect’s wrist. The reason was that he did not want to be built more beautiful creatures than Taj Mahal. It is a little bit cruel, but I can feel the king’s real love.

Reflection of Richard Harris Collection.

When I first stepped the Chicago Cultural Center, It made my heart flutter because I had never been any museum in Chicago. There exhibited a lot of skull sculptures and paintings which were collected by Richard Harris. Atmosphere of the exhibition center was very weirdness and gloominess. I just thought why they made this art works by skulls or what purpose was. I tried to appreciate works in various aspects. They described the beauty of human body through skulls and skeletons and their drawings emphasized beautiful lines of bones, muscles and tendons. I could think about human body was perfectly made by god. God might be great artist from this evidence. Skulls were the most beautiful material because no one thought who was beauty or ugly. After I appreciated skulls, I changed my mind. Even though their paintings and sculptures were usually used a color of black, white, and gray, I could feel nobility of skulls and their perception about death. It was very interesting time to think again about death.
